Sea Otters – Year 2/3 – Blwyddyn 2/3

Welcome to Year 2/3 Sea Otters Class page!

Spring Term 2026

Croeso! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break!

We’re excited to start our new topic; “A view from our window”, and the children have already shared their ideas and questions about what they would like to learn in our EPIC (Everybody planning in class) session, before the Christmas holidays. Our topic will focus around the view from our classroom and the local area.

Below are some of the things we will be looking at this half term: Spring Term 2026

Literacy:
We’ll be using books linked to our topic, with a specific focus on the picture book ‘Window’ by Jeannie Baker to inspire our reading, writing and discussions around what makes our world such an amazing place. We will learn about the features of a persuasion text and persuade people to look after and preserve our environment.

➕ Maths:
Our focus will be on addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and time.

🗺️ Humanities:
This term, our topic View from My Window explores the Mumbles Railway and seaside holidays, comparing life by the sea in the past with the way we enjoy it today. Through local history, photographs and stories, we will discover how our coastline and community have changed over time

🔬 Science:
In Science, we will explore natural and man-made features through weather and seasonal changes using our view over Swansea Bay, investigate seaside habitats, and learn about materials and movement through the history of the Mumbles Railway.

🎨 Art:
Our Art work will focus on coastal sketching, using observation to capture the shapes, lines and textures of the sea and landscape we can see from our window.

 Art:
We’ll be learning about the artist , creating work inspired by the natural world.

We’re really looking forward to an exciting half term of discovery!

READING

Reading is such an important skill, and we really appreciate your support at home.
Please continue to:

  • Listen to your child read regularly, and
  • Read to them as often as you can – this helps build their love of stories, language, and learning.

Please return your child’s reading book and reading record every Wednesday, so that we can change the book. It will be sent home by Friday of that week at the latest. If you forget to send the book, just pop it in the next day. Thank you!

P.E.

P.E. will take place every Wednesday this half term and will focus on dance and
Please can your child come to school wearing their PE kit every Wednesday.

To ensure your child is comfortable and prepared for all weather, please make sure they have:

  • A jumper or zip-up jacket
  • Jogging bottoms or leggings
  • Trainers

All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you for your support!

OUTDOOR LEARNING

At Hendrefoilan, we are so lucky to have Coed Cadno. We try and utilise the area as much as we possibly can.

Outdoor learning will be on a Monday. Please send your child into school dressed in appropriate clothing and ensure your child has a coat /waterproofs and wellies if necessary, for this day. Our cloakroom is limited on space, so I will not be keeping any outdoor learning clothes in school this year.

Please provide your child with a labelled water bottle which they can keep in class and use as needed.

Children may also bring a healthy snack in a small container to enjoy during morning break. Snacks will be kept in school bags, but please make sure any containers are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
