Mr Davies, Acting Deputy Headteacher
Welcome to Hendrefoilan Primary School
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
It is a real privilege to welcome you to Hendrefoilan Primary School as Headteacher. Whether you are a prospective parent, a current family or simply interested in finding out more about our school, I hope our website gives you a flavour of the warm, welcoming and ambitious community we are so proud to be part of.
At Hendrefoilan, our vision is simple: to provide every child with the opportunity to learn, have fun and reach for the stars. We believe that every child is unique and deserves to feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best. Our dedicated staff work hard to create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, happy and confident to take risks in their learning, develop resilience and discover their individual strengths.
Set within extensive grounds on the edge of Swansea, our school benefits from exceptional outdoor learning opportunities, including woodland, sports fields, adventure play areas and our much-loved Celtic Roundhouse. These rich environments allow learning to extend beyond the classroom, encouraging curiosity, creativity and a love of the natural world.
Our curriculum is rooted in the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales and is carefully designed to inspire children through engaging, meaningful and authentic learning experiences. We place great importance on developing the integral skills that children need for life, alongside high standards in literacy, numeracy and digital competence. We want our pupils to become confident, independent learners who are kind, ambitious and ready for the future.
Hendrefoilan is a fully inclusive school where every child belongs. We celebrate diversity and believe that positive relationships sit at the heart of everything we do. We have high expectations for behaviour, learning and personal development, encouraging our pupils to show kindness, respect and responsibility in all that they do. The wide range of leadership opportunities available, from School Council and Eco Committee to Criw Cymraeg, Safety Squad, Play Pals and Head Pupils, enables children to make a genuine difference to our school community.
We are incredibly proud of our achievements, including our Platinum Eco School status, Healthy Schools accreditation and Siarter Iaith award, as well as the many successes our pupils enjoy in sport, music, the arts and community events. Our recent Estyn inspection recognised Hendrefoilan as “a calm and happy place where pupils make good progress and achieve well,” highlighting the strong relationships between staff, pupils and the wider community.
Partnership with families is incredibly important to us. We believe that children achieve their very best when school and home work together, and we value the support, encouragement and involvement of our parents and carers. Throughout the year we enjoy welcoming families into school for performances, celebrations, workshops and community events such as our much-loved Hendrefest, helping to create the strong sense of belonging that makes Hendrefoilan such a special place.
As Acting Headteacher, I am passionate about ensuring that every child leaves Hendrefoilan not only with excellent knowledge and skills but also with wonderful memories, lasting friendships and the confidence to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
I hope our website provides you with the information you need and offers an insight into life at Hendrefoilan Primary School. If you would like to find out more, or arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be delighted to welcome you to our school.
I look forward to working in partnership with you and your family.
Mrs Debbie Tidy
Acting Headteacher
