Turtles – Year 2 & 3 / Blwyddyn 2 & 3
Croeso i Blwyddyn 2 / 3 – Turtles Mrs Tidy
Autumn Term 2025
Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely summer break. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead and all the exciting learning we have planned.
Our class Teaching Assistant this year will be Mr McNaughton, and together we’re ready to support your children in every aspect of their learning and wellbeing.
We’re excited to start our new topic, Wild and Wonderful World, and the children have already helped shape our learning by sharing what they’d like to explore!

Here’s a little insight into what we’ll be covering this half term: Topic Web
📖 Literacy:
We’ll be using books linked to the Seven Wonders of the World to inspire our reading, writing and discussions around what makes our world such an amazing place. We will learn about the features of an information text and write a leaflet about a wonder of Swansea.
➕ Maths:
Our focus will be on place value, addition and subtraction, building strong number skills and confidence.
🗺️ Humanities:
We’ll locate the Seven Wonders of the World on a map and also discover the Seven Wonders of Wales, making meaningful links to our local context.
🔬 Science:
We’ll dive into the Great Barrier Reef as an example of a natural wonder, exploring the animals and habitats that make it so special.
🎨 Art:
We’ll be learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy, creating work inspired by the natural world.
We’re really looking forward to an exciting half term of discovery!
Here is the autumn term topic overview:
READING
Reading is such an important skill at this age, and we really appreciate your support at home.
Please continue to:
- Listen to your child read regularly, and
- Read to them as often as you can – this helps build their love of stories, language, and learning.
In school, I will listen to the children read regularly. While this might not be every week for every child, their reading books will be changed weekly.
Please return your child’s reading book and reading record every Wednesday, so that we can change the book and check progress. It will be sent home by Friday of that week at the latest. If you forget to send the book, just pop it in the next day. Thank you!
P.E.
P.E. will take place every Wednesday this half term and will focus on fitness activities.
Please send your child to school dressed in their P.E. kit.
To ensure your child is comfortable and prepared for all weather, please make sure they have:
- A jumper or zip-up jacket
- Jogging bottoms or leggings
- Trainers
All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you for your support!
OUTDOOR LEARNING
At Hendrefoilan, we are so lucky to have our wonderful forest area- Coed Cadno. We try and utilise the area as much as we possibly can.
Outdoor learning will be on a Monday. Please send your child into school dressed in appropriate clothing and ensure your child has a coat /all in one puddle suit and wellies if necessary, for this day. Our cloakroom is limited on space, so I will not be keeping any outdoor learning clothes in school this year.
SNACKS / WATER BOTTLES
I believe it’s really important that children stay hydrated throughout the day.
If you wish, you can provide your child with a labelled water bottle which they can keep at the sink and use as needed.
Children may also bring a healthy snack in a small container to enjoy during morning break. Snacks will be kept in school bags, but please make sure any containers are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Thank you for helping us promote healthy habits!
