Welcome to the Sharks Class

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break.  

Our Summer Term is ‘To Infinity and Beyond’

In Literacy, we will focus on the books about Space and learning about the moon mission. In Maths, we will focus on time, tally charts, pictograms, fractions and more . For Humanities, we will be exploring Castles and Wales, including our locality. In Science, we will look at the order of the planets, the sun and other stars and phases of the moon. We will also learn about the artists Peter Thorpe and making our own rockets. The children have been part of the planning for our new topic and they have told us what they would like to learn linked to these topics.

To help the weeks roll by as smoothly as possible here are some details for our every day routines in class.

P.E & Outdoor Learning 

P.E will  be  on a Wednesday afternoon . This term we are focusing on ball skills. Please send your child into school dressed in suitable clothing every week that allow for easy movement and comfort.

Outdoor learning in Coed Cadno will be on a Wednesday afternoon. Children will need wellies and suitable waterproof clothing. Please send these into school in a bag with their names on.

Reading

Your child will bring home a reading book every week. They will bring them home on a Friday, please can they return them to school on a Wednesday. This will allow us time to listen to them read.

Reading is the most important skill to learn, keep developing and practice.  I ask that you support your children in their reading by regularly listening to them read, and also by you reading to them and sharing stories at home. Building a positive attitude towards, and hopefully a love, of reading is so important to your child’s development, and this can not be stressed enough.  It is also the perfect time for you to take 10 minutes out of what will undoubtedly be a  busy day, to sit , snuggled together and give them your full attention. Discuss the story, read some together, chat about their day. This together time will in itself help your child to build a happy love of story time with you. 

Spelling Test

Your child will be taking part in a spelling test every Monday. The words for the week are sent home in their orange spelling homework books. Please can you return the books to school every Monday, we can then stick in the words for the next week and will send them home that day.

Water Bottles and Snacks

I believe that children should have access to water and if you wish, you can provide your child with a labelled bottle that they can use throughout the day. Children may also bring a healthy snack in a small container that they can enjoy at morning break. The snack will be kept on the class trolley until break time. Please label any snack boxes with your child’s name.
