Sharks – Year 1/Blwyddyn 1

Croeso i Dosbarth

Welcome to the Sharks Class

Welcome to Year 1! We are so excited to begin our learning journey together this year. The classroom is ready, our books are waiting to be filled with wonderful ideas, and we can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces.

Our very first topic will be “Down on the Farm.” We’ll be exploring what life is like on a farm, finding out about the animals that live there, and learning how food grows. We’ll read farmyard stories, sing songs, get creative with art, and discover lots of fascinating facts about the world around us.

Snacks and Water Bottles

Please send your child into school with a water bottle labelled with their name. They will be able to access it when needed in class.

Children may also bring a healthy snack in a small container to enjoy during morning break. Please make sure any containers are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Outdoor learning

Outdoor learning will be on a Monday . Please send your child into school dressed in appropriate clothing and ensure your child has a coat, for this day. Our cloakroom is limited on space, so I will not be keeping any outdoor learning clothes in school this year.
At Hendrefoilan, we are so lucky to have our wonderful forest area- Coed Cadno. We try and utilise the area as much as we possibly can.
PE
Our PE lessons will also take place on a Monday.
Please ensure your child is comfortable and prepared for all weather, please make sure they have:
A jumper or zip-up jacket
Jogging bottoms or leggings
Trainers

All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you for your support!

Reading

Reading is such an important skill, the earlier the begin to read the better. Please help us by:

  • Listening to your child read regularly, and
  • Read to them as often as you can – this helps build their love of stories, language, and learning.

Please return your child’s reading book and reading record every Tuesday, so that we can change the book and check progress. It will be sent home by Friday of that week at the latest. If you forget to send the book, just pop it in the next day. Thank you!

If you have any queries or questions as the term goes by, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many Thanks,

Mrs Davies and Mrs Bowen.
