Rainbow Fish – Year 5/Blwyddyn 5
Croeso i’r dosbarth Rainbow Fish
Our Topic
The heading for our topic for this term is ‘Compassion and Conflict’. We will be looking at how Swansea was affected during the Second World War and the effects war has on the population, including modern day wars.

Home Learning
Here is the link for the home learning menu for the Spring term. The children can choose which task they would like to do in any order). There are 6 tasks but only 5 tasks need to be completed.
The children are able to submit work electronically via Google Classroom or bring it into school every fortnight.
The home learning will be celebrated in class and displayed for the term, before being returned home for safe keeping.
In addition, there will be extra Maths homework added to Activelearn to help secure understanding of classwork and enable further progression.
Spelling and Times Tables
Spellings and Times Table test will be every Friday. Spellings will be available here on the website and in our Year 5 google classroom. Please practice as much as you can, here are some ideas how you can practice:
The children will have a paper copy of the spelling words in their reading diaries.

P.E & Outdoor learning
P.E. lessons will be on Thursdays. You MUST wear your PE kit into school on this day.
We will be doing outdoor learning throughout the term . Please make sure you always wear a coat to school and appropriate footwear or hat and sun-cream as the weather dictates! Our Coed Cadno time is on a Friday afternoon.
Reading

We would like to emphasise the importance of regular reading at home. This can be with a grown up or individually, read out loud or in their head. If you can’t find your niche of books you like to read, why not try a comic style book?
The class will take part in Guided Reading and have opportunities to read independently throughout the day. We also endeavour to enjoy a 20-minute class reading session at the end of every day. We read a range of Welsh texts throughout the term too. Please remember your reading book every day, or you may use books from our school library.
If mums and dads have any concerns or worries feel free to contact the school office by email, and we will respond as soon as we can.
Diolch,
The Year 5 Rainbow Fish team.
